| how exactly does a voltmeter check "currents going all sorts of ways?" Voltage will read the same anywhere in the system. If you want to measure current draw, you'd have to put something inline in between your battery and the main + cable and turn everything on with the vehicle off. My guess is you have no clue what you're doing and just picked the gauge because it was cheap and looked cool.
